Whitney Houston and Dana Bash

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was the youngest of the children of the singer Dionne Warswick and gospel music legend Cissy Houston. Whitney Elizabeth Houston grew up in a family that was musical. In her early years, she sang in her New Hope Baptist Church choir in Newark. By the time she turned fifteen, Houston was singing professionally with backing vocals alongside her mother on Chaka Khan's hit song in 1978 Im Every Woman. In the year 1981, she worked as a fashion model, and was featured on the Seventeen cover. She also performed the backing vocals for Jermaine and Lou Rawls. In 1981, she began working as a singer with New York's funk band Material. It was her high-quality vocal performance with this group that caught interest of recording companies like Arista. The album she released as her debut Whitney Houston was released in 1985, and was the most-seller album by the debut artist. Tracks like the title track, The Greatest Love of All, How Will I Know If You Give Good Love, and the song Saving the Day and All My Love were all released on the album. These songs allowed Houston to reach 7 US top tens that surpassed even those of the Beatles. In its first US year of release, the album sold over 3 million units. Then it went on to be bought by over 25 million people worldwide, earning her her first Grammy. Its Whitney 1987 record, with The album's tracks, such as Where Do Broken Hearts and I Wanna Dance With Somebody as songs, grew on the successes she'd had. But the 1992 film The Bodyguard sealed her spot in the top 20 most-sellers ever. Although her performance in the film as well as its soundtrack weren't appreciated however, the Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You and The Bodyguard album that accompanied it topped charts all over the world for several months. Also in 1993 that she was married to Bobby Brown, an ex-New Edition singer and father of her only child Bobbi Kristina Brown. In the same year her use of drugs became well documented and she started using it daily by 1996.
